The Winery Trapl is situated in the wine growing region Carnuntum,
more precisely in the little village Stixneusiedl, which is
a rather quiet almost secret wine producing jewel next to
the well known Göttlesbrunn.
After finishing successfully his education at the higher
professional school with a focus on wine and fruit growing
in Klosterneuburg he worked as a trainee at wineries in France
and California. As soon as he had gained enough experience,
he returned back home to the family agricultural enterprise
in Austria with the vision to show the great potential of
the sites of his homeland and to make great wines out of it.
The focus of the winery is on renown autochthon vine varieties
such as Pinot Blanc, Grüner Veltliner, Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch
and St. Laurent. However Johannes likes to meet challenges
and so he cultivates international varieties like Merlot and
Cabernet Sauvignon as well. His favourite grape varieties
are St. Laurent and Blaufränkisch.
Through the entire vinification process Johannes attaches
a great importance to vinify a structured, fruit intensive
and recognisable wine without imitating the new world style.
Since harvest 2000 Johannes is responsible for the production
in the vineyards and the cellar. The mixed agricultural enterprise
underwent since then a strong development into the direction
of becoming more and more wine based - from 1 hectare to 11
hectares of vines!

Johannes Trapl, who quietly and considerately goes his way,
means in addition: "We have already learned so much (about vinifying
wine), but the full potential of our sites is by far not tapped
yet!"
